I was just doing what I normally do in my classroom, when all of a sudden, the door opens, and all of a sudden, all administrators and the SRO come walking in my room. My thoughts: “Who did it, and what went wrong?” Well, it was followed up with an announcement made from my principal who stated that I was chosen by the administration and staff as this year’s Ida S. Baker Teacher of the Year for my school. I was very shocked, humbled and grateful to God. I love the staff and the students at this school, and am grateful that I am able to live up to my sister’s mandate to be before she passed, which was to be the best teacher I can be.
